Curopos is a place and a former municipality in northeastern Portugal , in the Trás-os-Montes region .

Curopos is known regionally for its triangular bread, the Três Têtos .

history

Population development in the municipality of Curopos (1864–2011)

Today's place was probably built in the Middle Ages, after the Reconquista . Curopos was first officially documented in the royal registers from 1258.

It was an independent municipality in the Vinhais district until the administrative reorganization in Portugal in 2013 . Since then, it has been part of the UF Curopos e Vale de Janeiro community .

Curopos was a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vinhais , in the Bragança district . The community had 212 inhabitants and an area of ​​21.56 km² (as of June 30, 2011).

There are three villages in the area of ​​the former municipality:

  • Curopos
  • Hall
  • Valpaços

As part of the regional reform in Portugal in 2013 , the municipalities of Curopos and Vale de Janeiro were merged on September 29, 2013 to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Curopos e Vale de Janeiro . Curopos is the seat of this newly formed community.
