history
The firm was founded in 1982 by Stanley J. Berwin with five partners and is based in London, Great Britain. SJ Berwin LLP (not to be confused with Berwin Leighton Paisner) developed into an international law firm and belonged to the so-called Silver Circle of the 25 leading British law firms. In 1990 a branch was established in Brussels, in 1999 in Madrid, in 2000 in Paris and Munich and in 2009 in Hong Kong, as well as others in Dubai, Luxembourg and Shanghai. In 2002 the company achieved a turnover of 100 million pounds for the first time , and in 2006 it employed over 1,000 people.
On November 1, 2013, SJ Berwin became a part of the Asia-Pacific law firm King & Wood Mallesons , headquartered in Hong Kong, and thus the fourth member of the “Swiss Association” of King & Wood Mallesons. From then on, SJ Berwin changed the firm's name to “King & Wood Mallesons LLP”.
