SNK Evropští Demokraté (German SNK European Democrats ) is a political party in the Czech Republic , which was created through the merger of the parties SNK sdružení nezávislých and Evropští democrat ( European Democrats ).

The abbreviation SNK means "Sdružení nezávislých kandidátů" ( Association of Independent Candidates ) the party is officially called SNK sdružení nezávislých , although part of the name is repeated in this form of the name. The original purpose of founding the party was to give independent candidates (especially in local elections ) better opportunities to work.

The Evropští Demokraté were a liberal party founded in 2002 by the Mayor of Prague , Jan Kasl . She initially appeared under the name Demokraté Jana Kasla ( Jan Kasls Democrats ) (Jan Kasl was originally a member of the ODS ). The party was also successful in local elections in Prague in 2002.

The two parties won three seats in the 2004 European elections in an electoral coalition . The ED nominated one of them ( Jana Hybášková ), the SNK two ( Josef Zieliec and Tomáš Zatloukal ). In the 2006 elections to the House of Representatives, the party won 2.08% with 111,724 votes and did not receive a seat. The party lost two seats in the partial Senate elections in October 2008 and its last seat in the Senate in the partial election in October 2012 .
