SPHINX ( S pace P lasma H igh-voltage In teraction e x periment ) is the name of an American test satellite of NASA . The SPHINX satellite was with a dummy of the Viking -Raumsonde the payload in the test flight of the Titan 3E Centaur - rocket .
With the help of the SPHINX satellite, the influence of the earth's radiation belt on spacecraft should be investigated. SPINX had four experiments on board for this purpose. Various types of solar cells were also exposed to space. However, the satellite was lost when the Titan 3E Centaur suffered a false start due to the failure of the Centaur upper stage.
