SSG Humboldt in Berlin

The Spiel- und Sportgemeinschaft Humboldt zu Berlin e. V. (SSG Humboldt zu Berlin) is a Berlin sports club based in the Hohenschönhausen Sports Forum .

The sports community founded in 1990 with the departments handball , soccer , athletics , gymnastics and judo is a cooperation partner of the central university sports facility of the Humboldt University in Berlin . It is primarily, but not exclusively, an institution for students and its departments offer opportunities for activities in the leisure and competitive sports sector for young and old from the entire population. For example, the Judo department cooperates with the Randow Elementary School and the Matibi Elementary School in Berlin-Alt-Hohenschönhausen and thus achieves success in children's and youth sports.

Forerunner of the SSG Humboldt was before the turn of the founded in 1952 HSG Science Humboldt University , in the 1960s HSG Humboldt University , the students in the sport of DDR had achieved some success:

  • The Judo section of the HSG Wissenschaft , under the leadership of Helmut Bark , won seven individual and four team titles at the GDR men's championships in the 1960s and 70s. In addition, under his aegis , the team from the HSG Humboldt-Uni came second and four times third in the GDR team championships and at the GDR individual championships for men, the fighters from the HSG Humboldt-Uni achieved three second and 12 third places. Behind the judo sports clubs , the HSG Humboldt University thus had a leading position among the judo clubs in the GDR in the 1960s and 70s.
  • The HSG's basketball section was the GDR men's men's championship from 1953 to 1961. The women won the GDR basketball championship from 1956 to 1959
