SVK (software)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SVK [ ˌɛsˌviːˈkeɪ ] is a decentralized software system for version management . It is a program that runs on the developer's computer and is written in Perl , but it can read the Subversion filesystem and thus reuse it. For this reason, SVK is not a replacement for Subversion , but complements it. It is also possible to use SVK to mirror a software repository from Subversion , Perforce or CVS locally, so that you can work on the basis of the local mirror without an Internet connection and synchronize it later.

Workgroups can work together by exchanging their changes with one or more Subversion servers. SVK behaves like a Subversion client, but makes branching and merging much easier, so that more decoupled software development is possible, which is similar to git .

SVK was originally developed by Chia Liang Kao when he started his sabbatical in 2003.

On May 28th, 2009 the SVK developer announced that SVK will no longer be actively developed. This is justified by the fact that the concept of a distributed Subversion extension has become obsolete with the breakthrough of distributed version management systems. The Subversion connections from version management systems such as B. git or mercurial .
