The SV Holzweiler (officially: sports club Holzweiler 1920 eV ) is a sports club from the Erkelenzer district Holzweiler in Kreis Heinsberg . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region.
history
The club was founded in 1920 and played in the lower divisions until the end of the Second World War . In 1949 the team was promoted to the district class and two years later made it to the state league , the highest amateur league on the Middle Rhine at the time. As the knocked-down bottom of the table, the Holzweiler had to relegate after only one year. The low points of the season were the games against champions Viktoria Alsdorf , which were lost 9-0 in Alsdorf and 2:10 at home.
In 1956, the team was relegated to the district class, but managed to get promoted again directly. 1959 followed the renewed course in the district class. The direct resurgence was missed after the team lost the playoffs against the Monschauer district champion TV Höfen . Several years followed, in which the Holzweiler shuttled between district and district class, before they were promoted to the state league again in 1981. After seventh place in 1983, the team had to relegate to the district league two years later. In 2006 the club reached its sporting low point with the move to the district league B. Since relegation from the district league A in 2016, SV Holzweiler has played in the district league B.
