SWIV

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SWIV is a shoot 'em up from the development studio Random Access, published in 1991 for the Commodore Amiga , Amstrad CPC , Atari ST , Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum by the publisher The Sales Curve under its Storm brand . In 1992 another version for the Acorn Archimedes followed .

The gameplay is based on the classic arcade action Silkworm from 1988, in which up to two players can fight off the approaching crowd at the same time, one in a helicopter, the other in a jeep. Silkworm was ported to various home computers and the NES by The Sales Curve in 1989 and 1990 .

A special feature of SWIV is that there is only one level that scrolls from top to bottom all the time .

There were some rumors surrounding the name of the game, for example SWIV will be called Silkworm IV or Silkworm In Vertical (the latter an allusion to the fact that Silkworm was a side scrolling shoot 'em up). Presumably, however, the designation refers to a designation of the weapon type given on the back of the game box for the equipment to be used by the players. There it says “Special Weapons Interdiction Vehicles” in capital letters, from which the abbreviation “SWIV” results.
