Sabra (liqueur)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sabra (סברה) is a chocolate and orange flavored liqueur made in Israel .

history

The brand was developed by Edgar Miles Bronfman senior for the family-owned spirits manufacturer Seagram . His goal was to create a distinctive national spirit for Israel. The name comes from the originally intended main ingredient, the prickly pear , as well as the meaning of the Hebrew word for this fruit, sabra , as a synonym for Jews born in Palestine and thus - according to the picture - firmly rooted in this country, who are also affected by adverse conditions don't let it sway back. However, since the prickly pear liqueur was hardly well received, the recipe was soon replaced by the current one, but the name was retained. The liqueur has been produced by the Carmel Winery since 1990 and has also been marketed by this company since 2003.

The product

The liqueur has an alcohol content of 30%. The dominant taste is the aroma of the dark chocolate , complemented by the aroma of the Jaffa orange and slight hints of citrus. In addition to the main product, there is also a Sabra coffee liqueur and a brandy flavored with orange under the name Grand Sabra .
