The term property title referred to in the rules for alphabetical cataloging the substantive appointment of a bibliographic work. This can be, for example, book titles or magazine titles . The term comes from the formal development . A uniform title for all editions of a work within a bibliographical system is the standard title .

The abbreviations of the title, which are particularly common in the ordering system of the book trade, are referred to as short titles (for example instead of Thomas Mann: Joseph and his brothers, short Mann: Joseph ).
