The Sacramento Mountains are a mountain range in New Mexico . They represent the transition between two geological provinces in North America, the Great Plains in the east and the Basin and Range Province in the west, the easternmost rift valley of which is the Tularosa Basin to the west of the mountains.

The extent of the mountain is 137 km in north-south and 68 km in east-west direction. It consists of several mountain ranges; the highest of these is the Sierra Blanca with the Sierra Blanca Peak (3649 m). In the west the mountains rise as a steep stratification , while in the east they slowly merge into the great plains of the High Plains .

Much of the range is in the Lincoln National Forest, a national forest . Also located in the Sacramento Mountains, the reserve of Mescalero and the Sunspot Observatory (National Solar Observatory and Apache Point Observatory).
