Saiful Rijal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saiful Rijal (also Saiful Rehal , Saiful Rizal ; Arabic سيف الرجال) was the seventh Sultan of Brunei according to official counts . He ruled from around 1533 (1530), from the abdication of his uncle and adoptive father until his death in 1581.

The same reign also saw the outbreak of the military conflict between the Sultanate of Brunei-Borneo and the Spanish colonial expansion in the Philippines, whose immediate neighbor was the then much larger Sultanate of Brunei (Perang Kastila; Jawi: ڤراڠ كستيلا; Spanish: Expedición española a Borneo) in 1578 .

Saiful Rijal's eldest son, Shah Berunai , succeeded him. The Spanish called Sultan Saiful Rijal " Lixar " or " Sultan Nula Alan ".
