The Seigerturm is a medieval tower in Stolberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The round tower is located at the southern, very narrow exit of the market square of the small town. The spelling Saigerturm is also used.

history

The tower was built before 1282 as part of an inner city gate, which at that time protected the market square. The actual gate passage has not been preserved. The lower part of the tower, made of quarry stone , dates from this period . The name of the tower goes back to the Saigerschmelzhütte , which was located next to it in medieval times. The former town hall was directly on the west side of the tower. The passage to the market led through the town hall until it was demolished in 1746. In 1832 the upper part of the tower was renewed in brick. At that time, the tower also received its current dome with a double lantern .
