Saikou Marong was a candidate for the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the 2017 parliamentary elections in the Latrikunda Sabijie constituency in the Kanifing Administrative Region . With 35.83% he was able to win the constituency before Gibbi Bah (APRC) for himself.

In November 2019, the UDP dismissed eight party members from their party who were representing in parliament. The informed parliament now classifies MPs, including Marong, as independent MPs.
