Saikouba Jarju stood as a United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate in the 2017 parliamentary elections in the Busumbala constituency in the West Coast Administrative Region . With 55.28% he was able to win the constituency before Jerreh Sanyang (APRC) for himself.

In November 2019, the UDP dismissed eight party members from their party who were representing in parliament. The informed parliament now classifies the parliamentarians, including Jarju, as independent MPs.
