With the same objective, it can also offer other goods for use in return for payment. "

The fleet includes boats of various categories, from dinghies to large cabin yachts.

Key figures

All activities are carried out by volunteers . Only the office is paid a flat rate for its work. 210 public officials ensure that the sailing boats are ready for use in perfect condition. In 2014, SailCom generated sales of around 760,000 Swiss francs .

functionality

The boats are reserved over the Internet or by telephone. This is also possible at short notice and around the clock. Charges are made for the duration of use. All costs for berth, fuel, insurance, taxes, maintenance and depreciation are included.

history

SailCom emerged in 1998 from Mobility, which in turn was created in 1997 through the merger of the two Swiss car sharing cooperatives AutoTeilet-Genossenschaft (ATG) and ShareCom. These predecessor companies were both founded in 1987, ATG in Stans and ShareCom in Zurich. The two companies already cooperated in 1991 and made it possible for their members to use the vehicles mutually. In the same year, they helped found the European Car Sharing (ECS) association. In 1996 ATG took over the Geneva cooperative CopAuto (founded in 1993). ShareCom developed the first on-board computer in the same year.

The SailCom cooperative was founded in 1998 by 230 members. The number of members increased slightly every year. When Alinghi won the America's Cup in 2003, a boom in sailing began in Switzerland. Since 2004 SailCom has grown by around 150 members annually. The expansion of the boat fleet is running parallel to the membership growth. While there were 7 small sailing boats when it was founded in 1998, the fleet today (2015) comprises 73 ships throughout Switzerland.
