Saildrive drive of a First 40.7

Saildrive describes a special drive construction for motor or sailing yachts . It is a compact system that is easy to install.

From the engine, which is installed in the hull of the yacht, a permanently flanged shaft with a drive shaft (propeller shaft) leads vertically downwards and exits at an opening in the hull. Rubber sleeves are attached between the shaft and the hull, which serve to seal the hull. At the end of the shaft, the drive shaft is deflected at right angles and emerges horizontally from the shaft. The propeller is mounted on it. Cooling water is drawn in via the shaft , similar to outboard motors .
