The Counts of Saintignon are a noble family from Verdun in Lorraine .

history

According to tradition, Jehan Saincte came from the Verdun family de la Porte and is said to have successfully defended Viumbay Castle against Jacques de Revigny in 1293. Seriously injured, he said something like "d'Ugnon, d'Ugnon" and this exclamation has become his nickname. Claude-Martin Saugrain wrote in 1726 that the Saintignon were the most respected Verdun family due to their age and their numerous foundations. The de Saintignon family produced numerous clergymen and officers until the 19th century.
