history

Scouting first came to the western part of what is now the Republic of Georgia in the 1920s through British businessmen . Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, there was no recognized Georgian Scout Association, as no scouts were allowed there in the period before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

In 1992, students at Tbilisi State University began to take an interest in scouting. In 1994 the Georgian Scout Organization was officially founded and in January 1998 it became the 147th member of the WOSM.

The Sakartvelos Skauturi Modzraobis Organizatsia currently has 1,092 members, both boys and girls. The Georgian Boy Scouts participated in several World Scout events, Jamborees and Moots, including the World Jamboree in the Netherlands in 1995, at the invitation of the World Scout Committee, and the World Jamboree in Chile from 1998-99.

The Scouts et Guides de France work with the Georgian scouts to help them with program, organization and training.
