The University of Sakarya (SAU; Turkish Sakarya Üniversitesi ) is a state university in the Turkish provincial capital Sakarya .

history

The SAU was founded in 1970 as a college of engineering and architecture ( Sakarya Mühendislik ve Mimarlık Yüksekokulu ). In 1971 the name was changed to the "State Academy for Engineering and Architecture in Sakarya" ( Sakarya Devlet Mimarlık ve Mühendislik Akademisi ). From 1982 to 1992 it was affiliated with the Istanbul Technical University . The university was given its current form in 1992 with Act No. 3837. With around 35,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in Turkey. In December 2013 an international conference on the state of higher education education in the university took place. This conference followed on from the 2010 Trakya University Education Conference .

The university library has an area of ​​12,000 m², over 40,000 books and can accommodate 500 visitors.
