Sakurada Jisuke I.
Sakurada Jisuke I. ( Japanese 桜 田 治 助 ; * 1734 in Edo ; † 1806 ibid) was a Japanese kabuki author.
Sakurada was a student of Horikoshi Nisoji . In 1762 he went to Kyoto as a playwright. From 1765 he was the main author at the Morita-za ("Morita Theater") in Edo. He wrote for the actors Ichikawa Danjūrō III. and Ichikawa Danjūrō V. and Matsumoto Kōshirō V. He had a reputation as a sharp-tongued satirist and was a master of the genre Sewamono (dramas of everyday life).
In addition to 120 plays, Sakurada wrote 100 dance dramas. Many of his pieces, including Oshiegusa Yoshiwara suzume (1768) and Date kurabe Okuni Kabuki ( 「伊達 競 阿 国 戯 場 , 1778), are played to the present day. His name has been adopted by a number of students, the most famous of which is Sakurada Jisuke II and his student Sakurada Jisuke III. were.
