Salanjama , also Dzalanyama , is a mountain range southwest of Lilongwe in the border area of Malawi and Mozambique . It is the headwaters of the Lilongwe River .
The part belonging to the national territory of Mozambique was designated as a nature reserve. Ornithologists registered over 400 species of birds there. The mountains are of moderate importance for tourism as they are relatively remote.
