Selim (born October 27, 1990 , bourgeois Selim Mohammed ) is a German web video producer of Syrian-Kurdish origin.

Life

Selim is the son of a Syrian-Kurdish jeweler and goldsmith from Qamishli (Syria). In 2002, Selim came to Germany with his family as a 12-year-old refugee child. He and his family were initially housed in an asylum seekers' home in Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria. He lived there for a total of 7 years.

In 2010 he moved to Münster with his family . Selim still lives there today.

His father laid the foundation for Selim's career, who gave him a video camera despite limited financial means. He then got his first PC from a social aid organization. Selim quickly discovered his passion for working with video material.

In addition to school, he shot videos in which he also played. In personal union, he also took over the direction and the final editing.

In 2007 he created his first channel on the MyVideo platform and initially filled it with entertainment videos. In 2008 his first channel followed on YouTube (with around 600,000 views). There he published his self-made videos. However, two years later this was blocked.

For several years he has been using Facebook to create a new platform for his films. Here he founded the page "Minusmensch". Selim, who was still a schoolboy at the time, used toilet breaks or snuck out of class to post videos. Currently (as of 2019) the site has around 800,000 subscribers and around 5 million weekly views.

On his Facebook page "Der Roméo" he mainly posts love texts, quotes and romantic videos. His most successful channel to date, “Best Trend Videos”, went online in 2016 and is used on the platforms YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

Currently (as of 2019) the Facebook page is in 5th place in the “Social Media Rankings Germany” of the Storyclash analysis platform . Most of the content consists of entertaining videos. Furthermore, Selim offers newcomers and other humorously talented community members the opportunity to spread their content virally via “Best Trend Videos”. In the second quarter of 2019, Selim will receive up to 100 such videos per day. The idea for this publication principle came to Selim when more and more friends and acquaintances asked him to use the platform to publish their own content.

The site has about 113 million hits.
