List of ingredients with warning notice

Salmiakpastillen are diamond-shaped punched or cut lozenges with liquorice root extract ( licorice ), ammoniac ( ammonium chloride ) and predominantly aniseed oil . With a content of up to 7.99% ammonium chloride, salmiac pastilles are a "traditionally used medicine to support the mucus solution in the respiratory tract" (SALMIX, Konsul). Salmiak-flavored products are particularly popular in Northern Europe . Salmiak pastilles are (again) enjoying increasing popularity in Germany.

effect

An antibacterial effect can be attributed to the neutralization of the slightly acidic ammonium chloride (pH approx. 5.5) in the relatively more basic saliva (pH approx. 7), whereby ammonia is released, which has a disinfecting effect:

Reaction of the ( ammonium ) ion in basic solution to form ammonia and water.
