Salt spring

The Magdeburg Salt Spring is located in the south of the Rotehorn city park .

Until 1933 the salt spring was still clearly visible. Then it almost dried up. Today the spring is surrounded by a wall and a small staircase gives access to the water.

The legend of the Red Horn

The name of the island refers to a Magdeburg legend. Accordingly, Elwine, the ruler of the Elbe, owned a coral, red horn. A Buckauer knight fell in love with her, but broke a promise and so Elwine disappeared. Only the red horn remained. Willfried has lived on the island since then, and after his death a salty spring rose there.

Geological

The salt spring is an artesian spring . The salt content in the water probably comes from the Schönebeck salt deposits.
