The SAMAG Saalfelder Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH is a Thuringian manufacturer of machine tools and contract manufacturer for the automotive industry based in Saalfeld / Saale .

history

Samag was founded in 1873 as the mechanical engineering company Auerbach & Scheibe and manufactured drilling, bending and special machines. In the course of the nationalization of the state- owned companies on the territory of the former GDR after 1990, the company was privatized again in 1993. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall, VEB Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik Saalfeld was part of the "Fritz Heckert" machine tool combine, which was organized under VVB Machine Tools and Tools . While the machine tool manufacturer in the GDR had around 1,800 employees, the number of employees fell sharply after reunification. Today's Samag manufactures and sells machining centers and deep hole drilling machines . Furthermore, the development and manufacture of special machines and production lines for interlinked production is offered. In 2017, around 740 people were employed again and a turnover of 120 million euros was achieved. The machine tool business is only responsible for a turnover of around 20 million euros, the majority of the turnover is achieved with the production of parts for the automotive industry. These include steering knuckles , differential housings and crankshaft bearing caps for passenger and commercial vehicles. These products are mainly processed on our own machines. Other industries such as general mechanical engineering, the electrical, furniture and rail vehicle industries and medical technology are supplied in contract manufacturing. In addition to the headquarters in Saalfeld, other locations are operated in Königsee and Gera .
