Samorost

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samorost is a free point-and-click adventure from the Czech development studio Amanita Design . It was first published on the Amanita Design website in 2003.

Course of the game

The game is based on the point-and-click principle, as is common for other puzzle games. The player plays a small, humanoid- looking character with a hat and brown boots, called "the gnome". In the course of the game, the player has to solve a series of puzzles which, when put together, form the story. In contrast to Machinarium, there is no inventory or dialog, the puzzles are simply solved with the mouse, usually by clicking on them in the correct order. Solving a puzzle takes you to the next screen.

Samorost consists of a game world with surrealistic , organic backgrounds that combine nature and technology. Small objects are also often shown in large size to get a special perspective. Just like the game world, the other characters fit into Samorost's own style . The music also supports the player's visual experiences. A soundtrack can be purchased with the game ( DLC ) or through platforms such as iTunes .

The main task of the player is to prevent a collision between the home planet of the gnome and a spaceship.

development

Samorost was developed by Jakub Dvorský while studying "Graphic Design" and "Visual Communication" at the Academy of Arts in Prague . Despite the simple game structure, Samorost stood out with its surrealistic graphics. The game was nominated for the 2004 Webby Award and 2003 Top Talent Award .

etymology

Samorost is a Czech word for objects lying around in the forest (e.g. branches, roots, leaves). The asteroid on which the protagonist lives symbolizes such an object. Samorost can also be translated with the word loner . It consists of samo- (“self-, auto-”) and rust (a form of růst , which means “to grow”).

The word can also be associated with “vagabond”, “individualist” or “traveler”, which is also reflected in the story of the game.

Soundtrack

A soundtrack for the computer game was created from various sources by the founder of Amanita Design, Jakub Dvorský. It was not officially published, but taken from the game by a fan and posted illegally on the Internet.
