The Samsung Lions ( Korean : 삼성 라이온즈) are a professional baseball club from Daegu . The team founded in 1982 is one of the founding members of the KBO League and has won the Korean Series, the Korean baseball championship, eight times.

history

The Samsung Lions were founded in 1982 as one of the six founding teams of the KBO League , the highest league in Korean baseball. They won their first championship in 1985. Further titles followed in 2002, 2005 and 2006. In 2010, Ryu Jung-il was appointed as the new manager of the team and in 2011 led the team to their fifth championship title. That same year, the Samsung Lions also won the Asia Series , becoming the first Korean team to do so.

After star player Lee Seung-yuop returned from Japan in 2012, the Lions celebrated three more championship titles in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons, for a total of four in a row. In 2016, the Samsung Lions moved to their new stadium, Daegu Samsung Lions Park, in the Suseong district in southeast Daegu.

The home venue of the Samsung Lions has been the Daegu Samsung Lions Park in the Suseong district in the southeast of Daegu since 2016 with a spectator capacity of 29,178 seats.
