The San Juanico Strait is a natural waterway between the islands of Samar and Leyte in the Philippines . It connects the Samar Sea with the Leyte Gulf .

The San Juanico Street is over 30 km long, at its narrowest point it is only 2 km wide and is spanned by the San Juanico Bridge .

Route description

On the northwestern part of the Gulf of Leyte is the Bay of Carigara or San Pedro Bay . Here, at the southeast end of the canal, lies the city of Tacloban (on Leyte) and the islands of Enoruan and Jinamoc . The canal runs first to the west, in an enlarged basin there are some small islands, including Bacalan and Lazaretto . Mount Danglay rises on Leyte .

The canal narrows, turns north, and is spanned by the San Juanico Bridge . Other islands are Cangom and Magsumbul Dutay . The channel widens, passes the Caracapan Islands and Bagalibas , at the northern bend are the islands of Guintiguian , Torre , Nabubuy , Anajao and Santa Rita , as well as on the inside of the knee the large island separated from Samar by only a narrow arm Bacol .

The channel turns to the west and is now much wider, here are the islands of Navahay , Caltagan , Canpoc , Ivantatuc , Dabun , Buaya , Kanduyan , Canauyay and Calangawan .

At its northwestern end, the water is also called the Janabatas Canal .
