The San-X KK ( Japanese サ ン エ ッ ク ス 株式会社 San Ekkusu Kabushiki-gaisha ) is a Japanese stationery company based in Chiyoda , Tokyo Prefecture .

One of their first stationery products was CONCERTO in 1978.

San-X was founded in April 1932 as a private company under the name Chida Handler. The name Chida Handler was changed to San-X in May 1973.

There are also anime series, video games, and children's books featuring the characters .

It is also known outside of Japan for its products that relate to the kawaii segment of Japanese culture.

The best known of these are the Rilakkuma products. They have a turnover of over 360 million US dollars .

Other well-known characters besides Rilakkuma are Kogepan , Tarepanda , Sumikko Gurashi, and Mamegoma .
