Kogepan ( Japanese こ げ ぱ ん ) is a fictional character and a franchise of the Japanese company San-X , which is marketed in the form of books, an anime television series and toys, among other things .

The character, the theme of the franchise, is an oven-burnt anpan , a Japanese white bread filled with bean paste . Hence the name is derived from the Japanese words kogeru (burnt) and pan (bread) . In addition to the burnt Kogepan bread , other baked goods appear in the action, which takes place in a bakery.

content

Anpan is baked in a bakery in Hokkaidō and looks forward to becoming one of the most delicious breads in the store. But it falls back into the oven when the bread is removed and stays in it for 30 minutes too long. Eventually it comes out with a black crust and is teased by the other baked goods in the store for its appearance. So it runs away and lives on the street for a while. When he returns to the bakery and reads a self-help book, he takes courage and soon makes friends with other burnt-on baked goods. But because of its condition, it is never sold.

reception

In The Anime Encyclopedia , the work is with Anpanman compared. In contrast to this, however, it brings a tragic aspect to the “bakery” topic, as bread can never fulfill its actual purpose. The franchise is relatively successful, but is nowhere near as popular as the similar characters Tarepanda and Hello Kitty .

The franchise was licensed in the Republic of China and South Korea .
