San Pedro Advincola near Perorrubio, Sepúlveda

The St. The Romanesque church of San Pedro Advincula , consecrated in chains to Peter, stands on the edge of the small town of Perorrubio, which was added to the municipality of Sepúlveda in the Spanish province of Segovia as part of a municipal reform in 1970 .

location

The village and church of Perorrubio are located about eight kilometers southeast of the small town of Sepúlveda at about 1000 meters above sea level. d. M. The similarly designed church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in the suburb of Duratón, which also belongs to the municipality of Sepúlveda, is about eight kilometers to the south.

history

There are no documents or other written sources on the history of the church. For reasons of style and history, the small, single-nave church, which is completely unadorned on the outside, can be dated to around 1100 or shortly thereafter. The porch, which - like the church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Duratón - encloses both the south and west sides of the church, could have been added around the middle of the 12th century.

architecture

church

The walls of the church building are plastered, which suggests that they were only built from roughly hewn stones. Only the corner stones - z. B. at the approach of the semicircular apse - are exactly carved and joined. The apse is not structured - a large side window looks like it has been cut into the masonry; the central window with inserted columns, two beautiful capitals (lions and sirens) and small archivolts seems to be a later addition. After all, console friezes move around the entire building below the eaves, which are arranged at different heights.

lobby

The vestibule opposite the church is made of precisely hewn stones. It has no entrance on the eastern narrow side, where a sacristy was added instead; its south side is wide open with six asymmetrically arranged arcades and a portal. On the west side there is another three arcade in the line of the south vestibule - the former west portal is bricked up. The arcade arches rest on twin columns with capitals, their archivolts are not profiled and appear to be incised. The decoration of the capitals contained the repertoire of vegetable and geometric shapes that was common at the time; next to it there are birds and hybrids - biblical themes are not available.

portal

The church portal, which protrudes slightly outwards, shows a garment with two set columns, above which a bulge forms an archivolt arch. The outer archivolt arch is decorated with rosette reliefs and is framed by a block frieze . The portal ends at the top with a console frieze; the metope fields in between again show different rosette shapes. Overall, it repeats the structure and motifs of the - not exactly in line - portal of the vestibule.
