A sand mold or sand toy is a bowl-like toy , which is usually designed similar to a cake pan and is used to form sand cakes, sand figures or to build sand castles . If it is filled with moist sand and then pulled from the sand on a firm, straight surface, a sand figure remains in the shape of the mold. In addition to the molds, sand toys also include sand buckets, small shovels, rakes, sieves and watering cans.

In addition to being made from plastic, sand toys made from bent or punched sheet metal are also known.
