Sandwich plate (tectonic plate)

The sandwich panel is labeled SAN on the card

The sandwich plate is an approximately 7 million year old lithospheric plate in the South Atlantic , on which the South Sandwich Islands are located.

The plate is largely bounded to the north and east by the South Sandwich Trench created by subduction of the older South American plate . To the west of a mid-ocean ridge that is approximately 30 ° west longitude lies the Scotia Plate . In the south, the sandwich plate is separated from the Antarctic plate by a transform fault .
