Sangiorgi report

In the Sangiorgi report (1898–1900), the mafia organization Cosa Nostra was first described extensively and in detail. The author was the police chief of Palermo , Ermanno Sangiorgi , who came from Emilia-Romagna and who had written the report as part of the preparations for a trial. Today the 485 page long report is in the Archivio Centrale dello Stato in Rome . The report did not have far-reaching consequences and was long forgotten. Today he is considered a source and an important document on the history of the Mafia.

The report includes a. an organizational chart of the Cosa Nostra in and around Palermo, names the names of bosses, sub-bosses and dozens of other members and describes the activities of the mafia , such as extortion of protection money.
