Sanja Nikčević (* 1960 in Varaždin , Yugoslavia , today Croatia ) is a Croatian theater scholar , theater critic and full professor at the Osijek Art Academy. Before her academic career, she worked as a journalist and theater critic at Večernji list (1985–1993) and as a theater advisor at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia (1996–1997): She also worked as a freelance artist . Nikčević is a columnist for Vijenac and Hrvatsko slovo.

In 1984 she graduated in Croatian and French language at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zagreb and was with a thesis on the American Drama 1998 doctorate . She was twice a Fulbright scholar in the USA: CUNY - New York (mentor Marvin Carlson ) 1995 and UCSB - Santa Barbara (mentor WD King) 2003, where she learned modern European drama and theater in 2002. Nikčević received the Order of Croatian Lichen. She is an honorary citizen of Waterford .

She was president of the Croatian Society of Theater Critics and Theatrologists (2010–2019), member of the main committee of Matica hrvatska (2014–2018) and selector of the Festival of Christian Theater in Zagreb (2015–2019).
