Saint Lawrence Bridge
The Sankt-Lorenz-Brücke (also called Meierbrücke ) is a bridge that connects the Lübeck districts of St. Lorenz -Nord and St. Lorenz-Süd.
location
The approximately 220-meter-long St. Lawrence Bridge crosses the railway tracks immediately southwest of Lübeck Central Station . It serves as an overpass from Meierstrasse to Wisbystrasse opposite. This is where the popular name Meierbrücke comes from .
history
In 1907 the St. Lawrence Bridge was built as part of the new main train station to cross the tracks. The 100-year-old girder bridge was too low for the electrification of the Lübeck – Hamburg railway line , which is why the old bridge had to give way to a new one in 2008. Within eleven months, a new three-part structure, consisting of a 105-meter-long and 15-meter-wide steel arch bridge with prestressed concrete bridges to the north and south , was built in order to achieve a sufficient height for the contact wire .
