Santa Catalina is a small island in the north of the Colombian department of San Andrés and Providencia . It is located in the Caribbean , 122 meters off the northwest coast of the island of Providencia . Administratively, Santa Catalina belongs to the municipality of Providencia. At the 2005 census, the island had 206 inhabitants.
Both islands are connected to each other by the approx. 150 m long, colorfully painted pontoon wooden bridge Malecón Los Enamorados ( Lover's Bridge ), which leads over the artificially created Aury sea channel . About 200 inhabitants of Santa Catalina reach the neighboring island of Providencia as well as tourists from there to the offshore island.
The approximately 1.5 km² Santa Catalina is of volcanic origin and in Break Away Hill reaches a height of up to 130 m above sea level. Smaller settlements and a dilapidated fort ( Fort Warwick ) are mainly on the south coast of the island. The island has no paved roads.
