Santa Maria do Castelo (Alcácer do Sal)

Santa Maria do Castelo is a former municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal . It belonged to the Alcácer do Sal district and had an area of ​​435.3 km² and 4044 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011); accordingly the population density was 9.3 inh / km².

The municipality included a part of the urban area of Alcácer do Sal , together with the former municipality of Santiago (Alcácer do Sal), which is also part of the same district .

On September 29, 2013, the freguesias Alcácer do Sal (Santa Maria do Castelo), Alcácer do Sal (Santiago) and Santa Susana were merged to form the new Freguesia União das Freguesias de Alcácer do Sal (Santa Maria do Castelo e Santiago) e Santa Susana . The Freguesia Alcácer do Sal (Santa Maria do Castelo) did not have a coat of arms.
