Sarah Gilbert

Sarah Gilbert (* 1962 ) is a British vaccine researcher and professor of vaccines at the University of Oxford . She specializes in developing vaccines against influenza viruses and emerging viral pathogens. She led the development and testing of a universal vaccine against influenza viruses in 2011 and is currently involved in the development of a vaccine against COVID-19 .

Career

Gilbert was attending high school in Kettering, Northamptonshire when she made the decision to work in medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of East Anglia . She then went to the University of Hull for a doctorate . There she studied the genetics and biochemistry of the yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides .

Gilbert is the mother of triplets. Her husband quit his job in favor of Sarah Gilbert's career.
