Sarychat Ertash Nature Reserve

The Sarychat-Ertash State Nature Reserve is a nature reserve in the Issyk Kul Region in Kyrgyzstan . It is located south of Lake Issyk-Kul in the Tien-shan Mountains and covers an area of ​​720 square kilometers. The reserve is part of the Issyk-Kul Biosphere Reserve.

The reserve was established primarily to protect the endangered snow leopard and argali . Other large animals that can be proven to occur in the protected area are the Siberian ibex and the brown bear . Smaller mammal species that could also be detected with camera traps in the reserve are the red fox , Tolai hare and gray marmot . About 80 km southeast of the reserve, near the Chinese border, is the Jangart hunting reserve, where regulated hunting is permitted.
