Seat clamp
A seat clamp is a clamp that fixes the seat post inserted into the frame of a bicycle . Such clamps are usually made of aluminum , particularly light clamps also made of CFRP with titanium screws. With simple bicycles, they are part of the seat tube , which is slotted in the upper section and designed as a clamp (especially with simple frames based on the Pletscher system ).
There are three common types of saddle clamps on the market:
- Quick release ( eccentric clamp )
- Clamping by means of a hexagon socket screw or meanwhile by means of Torx
- Clamping with a special clamping bolt , washer and cap nut
The diameter of the seat clamp is specified in relation to the outer diameter of the seat tube. Common diameters for the clamps are 31.8 and 34.9 mm.
The quality of such saddle clamps is measured by their clamping effect and, especially on racing bikes , by their weight.
