Savelugu is a place in the Northern Region in the West African state of Ghana and the capital of the Savelugu / Nanton District . At the last census of the country on March 26, 2000, there were 24,937 inhabitants in the city. Projections for January 1, 2007 estimate the population to be 30,529. In the 1984 census, 16,965 inhabitants were listed. In 1970 the population was 9,895.

Currently, the city ranks 49th on the list of the largest cities in Ghana.
