Say a Prayer for the Boys Over There (German: A prayer for the guys over there ) is a song from the movie Hers to Hold that of Deanna Durbin is carried forward. The film deals with the entry of the USA into the Second World War and the farewell of a young woman to her husband, who has been drafted. The song asks to watch over the boys over there who stand up for freedom. Everyone works hand in hand to preserve this wonderful country. At the 1944 Academy Awards , Jimmy McHugh (music) and Herb Magidson (lyrics) with Say a Prayer for the Boys Over There were nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Song" , but they were left behind Harry Warren and Mack Gordon and their song You'll Never Know from the movie Hello Frisco, Hello .
The song was also recorded by Billy Ternent and His Orchestra and is on his album We'll Meet Again . Terri Stevens recorded the song for her album It's Been a Long, Long Time . Eileen Farrell recorded the song in 1943 and Bob Hart in 1944.
