You'll never know

You'll Never Know is a song composed by Harry Warren in 1943 . The text, which is based on a poem by Dorothy Fern Norris, was written by Mack Gordon . In the version sung by Alice Faye , it was used as the movie song for the film Hello, Frisco, Hello . The song won the Oscar for Best Song at the 1944 Academy Awards .

The song has been covered many times by Bette Midler , Connie Francis , Ella Fitzgerald , Engelbert and many others. The Dick Haymes version was a number one hit in the United States for four weeks from July to August 1943 .

Barbra Streisand recorded the song in 1955 at the age of 13. She later released the song on her album set Just for the Record . The album set also contains a version where Barbra Streisand sings a duet with her younger self.
