Scammell was a British manufacturer of tractors and heavy trucks .

history

In 1919 the coachbuilder Scammell presented its first tractor unit. In 1922, Scammell Lorries Ltd was founded in Watford to manufacture trucks . Scammell focused on building heavy trucks and tractors. In 1933, the Mechanical Horse, a light three-wheeled semi-trailer truck for local transport, was presented, which was built in various versions until 1968. With the Scammell Pioneer and Scammell Pioneer Semi-Trailer , special vehicles were produced to transport damaged tanks for use in World War II . In 1955 Scammell was integrated into the Leyland Group, but the program was not changed. After the takeover of Leyland by DAF , production at Scammell ended in 1988.
