Scanzoni pliers
The Scanzoni forceps is an instrument in obstetrics named after its inventor Friedrich Wilhelm von Scanzoni and one of many forceps models . You can use it to perform the so-called Scanzoni maneuver of the same name .
Scanzoni maneuver
The Scanzoni maneuver is a method of forceps delivery when the occiput is in the posterior position . The procedure is based on the idea that it is easier to develop the head from a proper anterior occipital position . The forceps are placed at an angle twice and the child's head is turned under tension. In the first step, this results in a deep transverse stand , which is then brought into the anterior occipital position and developed in the second step.
Advantages and disadvantages
Forceps delivery in the posterior occipital position offers a certain advantage due to the better pulling force compared to vacuum extraction , but it is much more difficult than this. In addition, vacuum extraction usually allows the head to rotate independently.
