Schøyen MS 2649

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schøyen MS 2649 (No. 830 according to Rahlfs ) are eight sheets of a papyrus code from AD 200/215. They contain parts from the 3rd Book of Moses (Leviticus) 10-13 as well as 23 and 25 in Greek . It is possible that the code originally only contained the book of Leviticus. The leaves are approximately 20 cm × 10 cm and partially damaged. They are described in one column in 22–23 lines each with Alexandrian capital letters. Some passages are the oldest known in a manuscript.

The leaves probably come from the area around Oxyrhynchus . They were probably written by the same scribe as the Papyrus Schøyen 2648 . The sheets were purchased from an antique dealer in Alexandria around 1930 by a collector from Zurich . In 1998 she bought the Schøyen Collection from Oslo , where she received the signature 2649. The sheets were found in the middle of the Schøyen MS 2650 papyrus .
