Schøyen MS 2648

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The manuscript Schøyen MS 2648 (No. 816 after Rahlfs ) are six sheets of a papyrus codex from around AD 200/215. They contain the text of Joshua 9.27-11.3 in Greek ( Septuagint ).

The sheets are 20 × 11 cm and are written in one column in 19 to 25 lines with Alexandrian capital letters. They were likely part of a 72-page codex from the Book of Joshua. The leaves are the oldest surviving evidence of these passages in Greek and represent an older text version before the Hexapla of Origen . It also differs from the later Masoretic text .

The manuscript probably originated from Oxyrhynchos . It was probably written by the same scribe as Papyrus Schøyen 2649 . Around 1930 the sheets were acquired from an antique dealer in Alexandria by a collector from Zurich. In 1998 she bought the Schøyen Collection in Oslo , signature MS 2648. The sheets were in the middle of the Schøyen 2650 papyrus.

Remarks

  1. See De Troyer 2006, p. 105. Most of the codices comprised the six books from Genesis to Josua (Hexateuch).
