Shot

Vogelschnepper intended for Schusser from Meyers Konversationslexikon 1888

The shot is a clay ball approx. 1 cm in diameter, nowadays mostly colored.

Originally it is about bullets for the Schnepper , also called Vogelschnepper or Balester. Especially when hunting smaller birds , the ammunition had to be light and not destructive to ensure that something edible was left over afterwards.

The secondary function of the shooter as a children's toy was retained when these crossbows were no longer used for hunting. In the course of time, the term Schusser was transferred to glass balls etc. in the game of marbles.
